Type a formula for each variable. One variable draws a line, two a square, three a cube, four a tesseract, and it keeps going. Every variable is also a voice you hear while the dot travels the shape.

    Sound

    110 Hz · A2

    A plain number multiplies this pitch. At 110 Hz, x = 2 plays 220 Hz.

    ±1 semitone

    How far each voice bends as the dot moves along that variable's axis. At 0 every pitch holds steady.

    Motion

    880× slower than sound

    One loop takes 8 s.

    How formulas read

    x = 2
    A pure tone at 2 × the root pitch. The dot swings along x twice per loop.
    y = 440hz
    An exact pitch in hertz.
    x = cos(t)
    Any formula of t. t runs from 0 to 2π once per loop, and the formula's shape becomes the voice's tone color.
    z = y^2
    A variable can use any variable above it.
    x = 2, y = 2
    Plain numbers start a quarter turn apart (x at 0, y at π/2, z at π, w at 3π/2), so equal numbers draw a circle.
